'Moon Phases: POSITANO

When you mention Positano or the Amalfi Coast, you normally think of one iconic image: Vibrantly colored old buildings set on the side of a mountain with the blue waters of Mediterranean rounding out the scene. After our time in Positano, we’ll forever associate it with tired legs and lots and lots of stairs. And also the best Negroni I’ve ever had in my life. Welcome to Positano.

P O S I T A N O

Our driver picked us up from our hotel in Naples and we began the hour-long journey to our BnB near Positano. I say near because staying in Positano proved way harder (and way more expensive) than we originally planned, but we found a great BnB not far away with great reviews and amazing views of Positano. It was also located near the trail head of one of the Amalfi Coast’s most scenic hikes, Il Sentiero Degli Dei, or The Path of the Gods.

After a steep (and at times treacherous) drive with lots of Italian cursing from our driver, we arrived at our BnB, Villa La Quercia, and the views were even better than we had imagined.

Kara and I unpacked our bags and quickly got ready to hit the nearest beach. On the way out, we talked to our host about the best way to get there and she gave us directions that were seemingly very simple: “Go out of the bnb, and just walk down the nearby stairs until you hit the beach. 20 minutes.” 20 minutes? All down stairs? Sounds simple enough! Spoiler alert: It was not simple. It was terrible and not 20 minutes.

After 30-40 minutes of descending down stairs and a couple wrong turns, we FINALLY made it to Arienzo beach. Our legs were so sore (and actually never really recovered after this), we were very sweaty, but after a couple espressos and some food, we were back in the game. From our perch in the cafe, we took in the scenes of this tiny (and surprisingly rocky?) beach.

With a little beach time under our belts, we were eager to explore downtown Positano, so we caught a water taxi from Arienzo beach, and were treated to some stunning views of the Amalfi coastline.

The rest of the afternoon was mostly dedicated to relaxing and exploring the more touristy parts of Positano. In the next post, I’ll share some of those images as well as some of my favorite images from our entire honeymoon. Stay tuned for the next ‘Moon Phase!
