Every June, La Cima Charter Elementary School (located in Bedstuy, Brooklyn) hosts a community wide block party for students, friends and families to celebrate the end of the school year and the beginning of the summer. It’s called Spring in the ‘Stuy, and it’s one of my favorite events to shoot.
Music and dance are central to what makes this event (and Bedstuy) so special. African drumming, zumba sessions, and dance teams from several schools bring out big crowds to support and participate.
The multiple activity and art stations are a popular stop for young and old throughout the day.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve put more of an emphasis on mixing in some lit portraits in my coverage of the day. Bouncing back and forth between natural light event coverage and portraits with strobe can be challenging, but I’m always happy with the results.
All smiles, all day. Another beautiful Spring in the ‘Stuy in the books! Thanks Brooklyn!
